Aadi 18
Today is Aadi 18, 18 th day in the month of Aadi in the Tamil calendar and this day in TamilNadu we celebrate the river mother Cauvery thanking her for the water.
women go to the river bank and offer prayers, tie sacred threads, make variety rice and eat together.
Because we cannot go, we did the poojai at home.
What a beautiful way to thank the natural resources and I think these practices were done to impart knowledge about how we need to preserve all these richness.
In those days, women always stored the water and used it from a vessel. Mud, brass or copper. They never drank out of taps, bottles and plastics.
Water has memory and I read that it is important to store and drink, pray and use which was what was followed in olden times and till today we do this in our homes.
And you can read about it from Sadguru’s video and other numerous videos from the internet.
Life is about gratitude and our ancestors thanked Pancha Bhootham always. No harm in following it.
Our pooja today:
Note: this video was 4 years ago I guess.
This year, I filled water in a copper jug, kept it in poojai and decorated with turmeric powder and Kungumam.
