Food as a medicine-2

In TamilNadu, the Banana tree is a symbol of prosperity. They place it in front of all happy occasions, festivals and functions. That too with the entire banana sting.

it immediately lifts the spirits up. Atleast for me. Sign of good things.

Similarly all houses had three main fruit trees, Mango, Jackfruit and Banana.

Banana flower and raw banana and banana stem was eaten atleast once in a week.

mostly today our regular food consists of sweet, or spice and sour to a certain extent.

there are 6 types of suave(taste) and astringent is one of them. This food with astringent is supposed to be good for women and their uterus.

the peeling of banana flower is laborious. but so is eating medicine is difficult. does anyone enjoy eating allopathy medicine?

I rather spend hours doing all these traditional type of foods, than to suffer in health and eat medicine.

after you remove the filament sort of things from the flower you need to soak it in buttermilk or it turns dark. so much work and it cooks in a jiffy and tastes so divine. tempered with mustard oil and ulutham paruppu (urad dhal), green chillies. the taste is undescribable. Temper, add the chopped banana flowers, salt and at the end add shredded coconut.

if you don’t have time to go to the YouTube to search for cleaning banana flowers.

the banana flowers has marroon colour peels. remove one peel, and you will see a dozen of tender small banana shaped strips. yes when let to grow they only become bananas.

remove all the strips and there will be a yellow stamen sort of. remove that. you should not eat it. similarly there will be a thin glass like cover. remove that too. and the rest you can.

then remove the next maroon peel. again you will find another set of tiny banana strips. same way till the end.
