My daily dose of calcium

I have realised nowadays that everything happens in its own destined time. And everything is dharmam and karma.

why i am saying this, I got into alternative medicine at a very different scenario very late

But better late than never.. And from there, there is no looking back.

my thedal (quest) is finding out traditional methods, trying to find the link in science and then understanding the connection and the wisdom of our ancestors.

fot a long time been searching about vetrilai paaku, or betel nut and leaf. In Tamilnadu even today in villages no meal is complete without vetrilai paaku or thamboolam.

in a stainless steel plate or a brass plate they arrange kumbakonam betel leaf like a fan, keep the betel nut in the middle, and a small bottle of sunnambu or edible limestone.

this is called Thamboolam.

in all festivals, functions offerings to the God, it is not complete without betel nut and leaf.

I think they wanted to register the importance of betel.leaf in our mind. So it kept showing up everywhere.

even in the return gift at weddings they gave few gift along with a betel leaf.

Betel leaf is believed to be Goddess Lakshmi’s abode. Thats why many grow it in their home. But the real intention was for us to consume.

betel leaf has many medicinal benefits and there are many varieties too.

it is believed to be good for cold, digestion and also aiding the calcium intake when spread on it.

One day I suddenly felt like I should start eating it. My gut feeling.

So started along and spread a little of our organic Gulkand. No words to express.

a mouthful of goodness.

asked an old lady at a wedding about it

She said that it makes your bones strong and also removes all Dosham.

சந்தோஷம்.
