Value of money and Hundi

In my school times mom bought us each an undial (piggy box)made of clay and in different shapes. Mango was very popular. And so many pottery people also had a lively hood because of it.
For everyone தீபாவளி deewali or so we used to break them with so much excitement and joy.
Coins will scatter everywhere and very few notes like 1 rs, 5 rs and 10rs.
We will count the biggest denominations first and to the smallest.
Then planning on what to buy.
Then grew up, opened bank accounts and was joyful to see the first salary credited to the account. Fast fwd years and everything is digital.
When salary comes, where it goes, whom did we pay all happens in a jiffy. No idea of what balance is there. There is no need to touch the note , or count them.or bundle them.up. no rolling up denominations and keep it safely.
My aunt used to keep many envelopes and in every envelope as soon as she recvd money on the 1, she used put the money in the respective envelopes. Like for example maid envelope 1000, milkman 500, flowers 100 and so on. So she knew what was left and she saved a lot of money.

She bought a lot of jewels and saved a lot of money. Seeing that I was inspired and made separate envelopes and put in money.

In two days I took out cash from this envelope for somewhere unplanned expense, thinking will refill but never did. Finally at the end of one week almost all envelopes were empty. No I did not give the money from that. I had used up everything

So tboughtits not my cup of tea.
One of our friends grandmother had saved a huge amount in FD. Around 50 laks. No education, living in a remote estate, she has saved.

Another group of people whom we know formed a kitty group where they all pitched in equally every month and based on random chit selection they picked a person who will take the entire lot for that month.
Miss those days of counting Coins and rupees and segregating them and rolling them.
I knew the value of money better before I feel.
