Vasambhu or Pillai valarpaan
India is filled with treasures and one is herbs. Herbs that you see everday might be a life saver. in those days, there was no doctor. A vaithiyar for each small village. Who used to grind few herbs together and administer or give few powders.
Vasambhu or Pillai valarpaan is one herb. Pillai means baby, valarpaan means growth. The one who takes care of baby’s growth. not literally meaning height. but the well being of the child.
In TamilNadu, we get small odd shaped beads that are strung together and made into a small bracelet and babies are made to wear them.
The babies when they move their hands by chance even if they lick this bead, it is good for them. And for this fragrance no insects go near them too.
In our family for adults when there is a stomach indigestion or pain, we slightly burn an edge of a vasambhu in a sesame oil lamp and when it is burnt, we make that into a powder. Take a pinch and mix it with honey and give the person.
